Prep baseball roundup: Saints get 7-3 win vs. Rams

WOODVILLE — Quinton Logan struck out 16 batters and Caleb Cross went 2-for-4 with a double as the Trinity Episcopal Saints defeated the Wilkinson County Christian Academy Rams 7-3 in an MAIS District 7-A game Tuesday night.
Logan was the winning pitcher after allowing two runs on two hits with five walks and one hit batter over five innings and he had a triple at the plate. Stewart Malloy got the save after holding WCCA to one run on two hits in two innings.
Trinity Episcopal scored one run in each of the first two innings, but WCCA scored two runs in the bottom of the second inning to tie the game at 2-2. Then Logan and the Rams’ Reed Sturgeon each pitched three consecutive scoreless innings to keep the game all tied up.
However, the Saints regained the lead and kept it for good after scoring one run in the top of the sixth inning and four runs in the top of the seventh. The Rams scored one run in the bottom of the seventh, but it was not nearly enough.
All four of the Rams’ hits went for singles and not one player for WCCA had two or more hits.
Trinity Episcopal (3-1, 3-0) will host WCCA with the junior varsity game at 4:30 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 6:30 p.m., but the games will be played at WCCA.
Vidalia 3, Block 1
VIDALIA — Alan Doyle pitched six shutout innings and held Block to just two hits with five strikeouts to lead the Vidalia High School Vikings to a 3-1 win over the Block High School Bears Tuesday afternoon at Concordia Recreation District 3 Complex.
Doyle won a pitchers duel with Block’s Taylor Perron-Krause, who also pitched six innings and gave up three runs, one earned, on two hits with 11 strikeouts. However, Perron-Krause walked three batters and the Bears’ defense committed two errors.
The Vikings scored one run each in the bottom of the first, fifth and sixth innings for a 3-0 lead. The Bears scored their only run of the game in the top of the seventh.
Dorian Bowman had a double for Block and Josh Foucher had a double for Vidalia.
Both Block (4-4) and Vidalia (6-4) next play at the Vidalia High School Tournament, which begins Thursday.
Pearl River Central 11, Natchez High 0
CARRIERE — The Pearl River Central Blue Devils scored all 11 of their runs in the bottom of the second inning in an 11-0 win over the Natchez High Bulldogs Tuesday afternoon in an MHSAA Region 6-5A game. No other information on the game was available.
Natchez High (0-2, 0-1) is scheduled to host Pearl River Central at Chester Willis Field for a varsity doubleheader at 5 and 7 p.m. Friday. However, those games could be moved to Saturday and at different starting times.
Brookhaven Academy 4, ACCS 0
BROOKHAVEN — The Brookhaven Academy Cougars shut out the Adams County Christian School Rebels 4-0 Tuesday night in ACCS’s MAIS District 5-AA opener. No other information on the game was available.
ACCS (0-5, 0-1) hosts Brookhaven Academy at 7 p.m. Friday.
Centreville Academy 9, Bowling Green School 6
FRANKLINTON, La. — The Centreville Academy Tigers held on for a 9-6 win over the Bowling Green School Buccaneers Tuesday night in an MAIS District 6-AA game. No other information on the game was available.
Centreville Academy (N/A, N/A) hosts Bowling Green School for a varsity doubleheader Friday beginning at 4:30 p.m.
