NATCHEZ — Memorial services for Beulah Rivers Rasberry Swindell, 87, of Natchez, who died Tuesday, March 11, 2014, at Natchez Community Hospital, will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Jefferson Street United Methodist Church with the Rev. John Kramer officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. until service time Friday at the church.

Mrs. Swindell was born June 11, 1926, in Bell Arthur, N.C., the daughter of Paul Samuel Rasberry and Stella Susan Young Rasberry.

She was a native of North Carolina. She was raised in the Arthur Christian Church and a graduate of Atlantic Christian College (now Barton College) in Wilson, N.C.

Following her marriage to Richard Benson Swindell in December 1951, she moved to Louisiana.

Upon their retirement, they returned to Morehead City, N.C., in 1987.

In 2003, following the death of her husband in 2001, she moved to Natchez.

She was a retired teacher with over 35 years of service and a member of Jefferson Street United Methodist Church.

She was an avid bridge player and reader.

Mrs. Swindell was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Richard Benson Swindell; and nine brothers and sisters.

Survivors include her daughter, Susan Swindell Cassagne and husband, Gabriel, of Natchez; two grandsons, Andre Gabriel Cassagne, of Biloxi, and Richard Edward Cassagne and wife, Sarah, of Baton Rouge; two granddaughters, Julliette Laura Cassagne and Elizabeth Robin Cassagne, both of New Orleans; and a number of nephews, nieces and many friends and former students.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Judge George W. Armstrong Library or to the Jefferson Street United Methodist Church.
