CHURCH HILL — Services for Dr. Robert Edwin Noble, 75, of Crockett, Texas, formerly of Louisiana, who died Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2010, at Community Care Center in Crockett, will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Church Hill Methodist Church.

Burial will follow at the Episcopal Church Cemetery in Church Hill under the direction of Callaway-Allee Funeral Home in Crockett.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Callaway-Allee Funeral Home and from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Laird Funeral Home.

Dr. Noble was born April 30, 1935, in Jefferson County, the son of Robert and Edwin Noble. He had moved to Crockett two years ago.

Dr. Noble was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the 31st Infantry Division in 1958. He received a bachelor and master’s degree in wildlife management from Louisiana State University and a Ph.D. from Michigan State. Dr. Noble was a professor at LSU for 28 years in forestry and wildlife management until his retirement.

He was awarded membership in Xi Sigma Pi and Sigma Xi and received the National Amoco Foundation Award for “Distinguished Undergraduate Teaching.” In 2009, he was inducted into Forestry Wildlife and Fisheries Alumni Association Hall of Fame. Dr. Noble traveled extensively, having spent seven summers in Alaska studying everything from the effects of harvesting virgin timber on bird populations, to Dall sheep in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and reindeer near the Chukchi Sea.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Allene Noble of Baker, La.; one daughter, Dr. Stephanie Shroyer and husband, Johnny, of Porter Springs, Texas; one grandson, Robert Paul Shroyer of Porter Springs; two sisters, Delia Ann Guedon and husband, Emile, and Mary Ed Guedon and husband, Arch, all of Church Hill; one brother, Erne Maddux Noble and wife, Lucy, of Baton Rouge; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
