NATCHEZ — A check-in with his probation officer landed a man suspected of involvement in a recent shooting at Holiday Apartments in jail Monday.

Natchez Police Lt. Craig Godbold said Louis J. Jackson III, 21, 601 Old Washington Road, Apt. 23-B, was charged with two counts of aggravated assault for reportedly shooting at multiple people who were sitting in two cars March 5 at Holiday Apartments.

Godbold said police were able to arrest Jackson after he checked in with his probation officer. Jackson was on probation for cruelty to animals.

Tavonte D. White, 19, 11 Grant St., was charged shortly after the shooting for also allegedly shooting at the cars.

Jackson and White reportedly came out of an apartment building, pulled out guns and began shooting. One victim reportedly suffered minor injuries, possibly from being grazed by a bullet, but Godbold said police have been unable to confirm that.

The shooting reportedly stemmed from an ongoing feud between one of the victims and Jackson and White.

The two men fled the scene, but Godbold said a Crime Stoppers caller alerted police to a vehicle White was seen getting into, enabling police to find the vehicle and arrest White shortly after the shooting.

White was reportedly carrying a concealed, loaded revolver when he was arrested.

White was charged with two counts of aggravated assault and one count of carrying a concealed weapon.

White was also charged with two more aggravated assault charges for a shooting at Daisy Street Grocery in early February. White allegedly shot into Daisy Street Grocery, shattering the front door glass. No one was injured in that shooting.
