Spring Pilgrimage just kicked off in Natchez, but plenty of other good news occurred in our community outside of hoopskirts and antebellum houses last week.

Before we prepare for the week ahead, let’s take a minute and look at some of the highlights from last week:

• Students from Boston College visited Natchez during their spring break vacation to help students and paint classrooms at Holy Family Catholic School. The trip is one students from the college make each year and is welcomed by Holy Family administrators. We thank the students for continuing to give back to Natchez.

• The Cathedral Key Club will receive a $10,000 grant to help package more than 80,000 bags of food in April. The meals will all be distributed to organizations in the Miss-Lou. We congratulate the club for receiving the funding.

• Sherry Jones was inducted into the Presbyterian Historical Society in Philadelphia, which aims to collect, preserve and share the story of the American Presbyterian experience. Jones said she was honored to help fulfill that mission, and we know she will be an asset to the organization.

• Natchez native Hattie Harris has spent 49 years volunteering at the Adams County On the Move 4-H Club and countless hours at the parent centers of several Natchez schools. The long-time volunteer said she was inspired to give back after having strong role models in her life growing up.

Those are only a few of the great things that happened in our community last week, and we know plenty more good things are bound to happen this week, too.
