NATCHEZ — For the third time this week, many local and area baseball and softball teams have called off games because of inclement weather. On Thursday, it was because of persistent rain and wet ball fields.

Natchez High School’s home softball games against Ridgeland High School were postponed. Lady Bulldogs head coach Alphaka Moore said she is working on rescheduling the junior varsity and varsity games.

Vidalia High School’s junior varsity and varsity softball games at Franklin Parish High School in Winnsboro, La., were also postponed. Lady Vikings head coach Gary Parnham said the games will be rescheduled for later on this season, but no make-up date has been announced.

Day one of the Monterey High School Baseball Tournament was also a casualty of the inclement weather. Wolves head coach Eric Richard said all of Thursday’s games were canceled. There will be one game today — Monterey vs. Block at 4 p.m. The tournament will have its normal schedule of games for Saturday — LaSalle vs. St. Joseph (Plaucheville) at 10 a.m.; LaSalle vs. Vidalia at 12:15 p.m.; Monterey vs. St. Joseph (Plaucheville) at 2:30 p.m.; and Vidalia vs. Block at 4:45 p.m.

Monterey High School’s softball team was scheduled to have its home opener on Thursday against Block High School. However, that will not take place either. Lady Wolves head coach Kayla Shirley said no make-up date has been set. She also said their games at Vidalia High School that were rained out on Tuesday will take place on Saturday beginning at noon.

Franklin County High School’s softball team had its JV and varsity games at Enterprise High School in Brookhaven postponed and will be rescheduled for Friday, April 4 at 5 and 6 p.m., respectively, Franklin County head coach Dana Smith said.

Delta Charter School’s baseball game at Tensas Academy was also canceled and it is unknown at this time if the game will be rescheduled.

Wilkinson County Christian Academy’s home and season opener against Christian Home Educators Fellowship (CHEF) was also postponed. Rams head coach Kyle White said the games will now take place on Saturday with tentative starting times of 10 a.m. for the JV game and 12 p.m. for the varsity game.
