Natchez Public Works Department crews will work today to dig out portions of the intersection of Canal and Main streets to determine the cause of a depression in the road.

Public Works Supervisor Justin Dollar said the crews won’t be able to determine the reason for the depression at the intersection until they dig up portions of the roadway.

“It could be a busted line or a couple of different things causing it,” Dollar said. “That’s something we can’t tell until we get down there.”

Dollar said work on the road is scheduled to begin this morning depending on weather conditions.

What the crews find, Dollar said, will determine how long the work will need to continue.

“We should be able to dig it out in one day, but there could be numerous things we run into once we get down there,” Dollar said. “It may be something we can fix rather quickly, we just don’t know yet.”

Dollar said detour signs will be placed throughout the area to divert traffic away from the intersection while crews work on the road.
