NATCHEZ — Services for Daniel Neff Young, 58, of Natchez, who died Thursday, Feb. 6, 2014, in Natchez, will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Laird Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Stacy Douglas officiating.

Burial will follow in Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. until service time Friday at the funeral home.

Mr. Young was born March 15, 1955, in Natchez, the son of Clarence Neff Young and Roxie McClure Young.

He is a graduate of Trinity Episcopal Day School (Class of 1973) and Mississippi State University with a degree in anthropology. He also completed post graduate work in Missouri.

He studied runology, Norse mythology, Germanic mysticism, philosophy, religion and was an avid rock collector. He also had a flock of chicks, Parsley, Sage, Rosemary, Thyme and Cinnamon.

A retired truck driver, Mr. Young was a member of Jefferson Street United Methodist Church. He loved baseball, gardening, chess and an eclectic mix of music.

He was a free spirit who never met a stranger.

Mr. Young was preceded in death by his beloved parents; and grandparents, James Basil McClure and Alma Lanehart McClure.

Survivors include his son, Raymond Basil Young and wife, Genevieve, of Ridgeland, one grandson, Abraham Royce Young; one brother, Martin James Young and wife, Cindy, of Pennsylvania; three sisters, Roxie Young Robertson and husband, Jimmy, Ruth Young Anderson and husband, Paul, all of Natchez, and Carol Young Mowen and husband, Nick, of Pennsylvania; nephews and nieces, Ellen Ayres, Claire Robertson Rymer and husband, Jamie, Peter Mowen, Andrew Mowen and Chelsea Sanford; great-niece Vera Claire Rymer; and mother by marriage, Sally C. Young.

Pallbearers will be longlife friends, David McGehee, James Schuchs, Fred Parker, Ben Hewitt, Keith Walden and Judge Al Johnson.

Honorary pallbearer is Dr. Barry Tillman.
