Violet Shows

Graveside services for Mrs. Violet McCarty Shows, 89, of Springfield, Mo., formerly of Natchez, who died peacefully at Maranatha Manor Wednesday, following a three-year period of declining health, will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Sharon Baptist Church Cemetery in Sikes, La.

Violet was born April 12, 1917, in Sikes, the daughter of the late Henry and Lura Crain McCarty. She was married to Johnnie Shows on March 18, 1935. She accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior in 1936, and in 1938 she became a lifelong member of the Assemblies of God fellowship, serving faithfully in various lay ministry positions in Cullen, La.; in Natchez and in Springfield, Mo.

She was employed as a food service supervisor at Jefferson Davis Memorial Hospital from 1960 to 1964, and from 1934 until her retirement in 1981 she was a cafeteria manager in the Natchez-Adams County School System.

Violet was preceded in death by her husband, Johnnie, in 1996, and by two daughters, Sandra Gayle and Wanda Sue.

Survivors include two daughters, Gloria Argue and husband Jim and Glenda Morris and husband, Hubert; son, John Shows and wife, Roslyn, all of Springfield, Mo.; seven grandchildren, Debbie Pedde and husband, Dave, of Minneapolis, Randy Argue and wife, Michele, of Mission Viego, Calif., Angela Donadio and husband, Dale, of Fredericksburg, Va., Deanna Ragsdale and husband, Kevin, of Oklahoma City, Sabrina Gurney and husband, Kirk, of Grosselle, Mich., Leah Miller and husband, Matt, of Rockford, Ill. and Rachelle Peak and husband, Shane, of Springfield, Mo.; and 23 great-grandchildren.
