Vidalia — Shaun McDonald and the Advance Sports Braves will host the Addison Curtis Benefit baseball tournament Saturday to raise money for a boy’s medical expenses after he was accidentally shot with an arrow in his chest last week.

The benefit will take place at the Concordia Parish Recreational Complex, starting at 9 a.m.

McDonald, the head coach for the Braves and the Vidalia Junior High baseball team, said the tournament was already set to take place as a warm up for area teams, but after he heard the news, he decided to dedicate the event to Curtis.

“We were having the tournament for the junior high team to get its season kicked off,” McDonald said. “Once (the incident) happened, we decided to do it as a benefit. All of our ball players are friends with (Curtis).”

The tournament will feature six teams, Vidalia Junior High, the Braves, Delta Charter, Adams County Christian School, Monterey Junior High and Tioga Junior High.

McDonald said Curtis’ brother, Carson, would throw out the first pitch at 9:30 a.m. before the games kick off.

“Every team will play two games, and the admission is $3,” McDonald said. “We’ve got Delta Bank selling jambalaya, and the Vidalia junior high softball team will do face painting. All of the profits will go to the family.”

McDonald said he is hoping to have a good crowd show up to support Curtis and the local baseball teams.

“I hope we have some nice warm weather and the community comes out to help us raise money,” he said.
