FERRIDAY — Keiwaun Miles will be joining several of his Trojan family members at Louisiana College this fall.
Miles, a senior linebacker for Ferriday High School, signed a letter of intent to play football at Louisiana College. He follows in the footsteps of several former teammates, and Miles said he was looking forward to reuniting with them in Pineville.
“I have three cousins, Richard Jefferson, Jarvis Brooks and Karl Hall, with me,” Miles said. “I like it. It’s going to feel just like home all over again.”
Trojans head coach Cleothis Cummings said he’s happy another one of his players will be able to play at the next level, especially since Miles had to overcome the injury bug this past season.
“He’s a solid athlete,” Cummings said. “He dealt with a couple of injuries that kept him from playing a few games, but at the end, when it counted the most, Keiwaun came in and did a good job for us.
“He’s one of those finesse-type players, especially on defense. He can use his hands very well, he can read offensive linemen and things of that nature. He’s an outstanding student as well.”
With his college decision made, Miles said he’s hoping his college career will lead to bigger things down the road.
“I love it,” Miles said. “I want to get my family out of Ferriday, and I want to do things better and help people out.”
Miles also said he likes the support staff in place at Louisiana College.
“I like how they have their system set up,” Miles said. “They’ll help you out with stuff, and they have good people there.”
For the Wildcats, Miles will play outside linebacker, a position in which Miles said he’s comfortable.
“I’m going to try to be a leader, even though I’m just a freshman,” he said. “It’s basically what I did here at high school, and I get to hit people.”
Cummings said, like all college freshmen, Miles will have to adjust to going to class and team meetings, but he’s confident Miles will do well at the next level. He also said it’s nice to have a small group of Ferriday players end up at the same college.
“The school is recognizing us for our academics, as well as our athletic talent,” Cummings said.
