NATCHEZ — Miss-Lou residents should wake up to temperatures in the mid-teens, but those hoping for an extended period of time above freezing finally have something to look forward to today.

National Weather Service meteorologist David Cox said the low this morning should settle around 14 degrees before rising.

“There will be a warming trend in the late morning to about noon, when temperatures should get above freezing,” Cox said. “Any precipitation that was frozen should finally loosen up.”

The weather service estimated 2 inches of snow fell Tuesday in Natchez.

The warmer weather should continue through the week as Friday’s low is expected to only dip into the upper 30s. The high will reach into the 60s with a 20-percent chance of rain Friday.

The forecast calls for a 60-percent chance of rain Saturday.

Frigid weather may return late next week, Cox said, adding it is too early to tell but is “something to keep an eye on.”

“Your normal highs for this time of year are actually in the 60s, with the average lows in the upper 30s,” Cox said. “For highs (this week) to be even below what our average low temperatures are is quite a bit below normal. This is atypical to get this kind of arctic blast in this region. We do get them, it’s just not real normal.”
