DUNBARTON — Graveside services for Johnnie “J.B.” Weeks Sr. 89, of Dunbarton, who died Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2014, will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, at Weeks Family Cemetery in Dunbarton with the Rev. Bill McCullin officiating.
Burial will follow under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home.
Mr. Weeks was born, Dec. 3, 1924, in Allen, Miss., and spent his young adult life in Sicily Island the son of J. D. Weeks and Lillie Casey Weeks.
He was one of 12 children. He had a third grade education, joined the C.C.C. Camp in Pollock at the age of 15. He worked as a gravel hauler and pulp wood hauler. He also worked at Humble Oil Co., Armstrong Tire and I.P. Co.
He built the building and opened Weeks Furniture Store in 1964. He farmed, bought land, worked hard and taught his children to do the same.
Mr. Weeks was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Leroy Weeks, James David and George Weeks; four sisters, Catherine Barlow, Lena Mae Peltier, Claudia Goodwin and Maxine Cain.
Survivors include his wife of 62 1/2 years, Sue Templeton; four children, Stephen Weeks and wife, Angie, of Vidalia, Johnny “Joby” Weeks Jr., and wife, Emily, of Monterey, Susan Stafford and husband, David, of Zachary and Janet Luneau and husband, Todd, of Bunkie; grandchildren, Ken Barron, of Tyler, Texas, Kimberly Stafford, of Pineville, Stephanie Weeks, of Vidalia, Shannon Probst and husband, Adam, of Vidalia, Madison Weeks, of Monterey, John Tyler Luneau, of Bunkie, Lindsay Ferrington and husband, Jamie, of Haughton, and Valorie Lurry and husband, Brent, of Keithville; great-grandchildren, Ryleigh Walker and Lillie Probst, of Vidalia, Bailey Barron, of Tyler, Ava and Deirk Lurry, of Keithville, and Gavin Ferrington, of Haughton; two brothers, Casey Weeks and wife, Sharron, of Sicily Island and Grady Weeks and wife, Elaine, of St. Francisville; two sisters, Sylena Smith, of Denham Springs and Eleva Golmon and husband, Jerry, of Frierson.
