Arthur Slan

Services for Arthur Alva Slan, 64, of Woodville, who died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2007, at his residence, will be noon Saturday at King Emanuel Baptist Church with the Rev. D’Wayne Anthony officiating.

Burial will follow at Cedar Rest Cemetery No. 2, in Woodville, under the direction of Rollins Funeral Home, Woodville.

Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Slan was born Jan. 19, 1943, in Wilkinson County, the son of David Slan and Bessie Stewart Slan. He was a graduate of Wilkinson County Training School. He was head custodian for Wilkinson County School District. He was a member of Fort Adams Masonic Lodge No. 622 and an usher at King Emanuel Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Ophelia Slan Jarvis; and foster sister, Ophelia Johnson.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy L. Slan of Woodville; son, Roderick Slan of Woodville; brothers, David Slan of Boswell, Okla., Lionel Slan, Richmond Slan and wife, Gwendolyn, and Ronnie Slan and wife, Janet, all of Phoenix and Johnelle Slan and wife, Alice, of Baton Rouge; sisters, Renda Gaines and husband, James, and Mary Alice Slan, all of Woodville, Brenda Cruz and husband, Harmodio, of Los Angeles; ten sisters-in-law; six brothers-in-law; goddaughters, Gina Maria Carter of Edgard, La. and Rosalyn Danielle Lacey of Woodville; aunt, Rosetta Broadway and husband, Alfred, of Baton Rouge; uncle, Willie Henry Slan and wife, Willie Mae, of Baton Rouge; mother-in-law, Ella V. Lane of Woodville; close friend and confidant and extended family member, Patrick Herbert of Woodville; and a number of other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be members of Fort Adams Lodge No. 622.

Honorary pallbearers will be David Slan, Johnell Slan, Lionel Slan, Darren Jarvis, Willie Henry Slan, Larry Slan, Harmodio Cruz, Richmond Slan, Ronnie Slan, James Gaines, Eric Gaines, David Lane, Earl Lane and Samuel Lane.
