MEADVILLE — Franklin County High School head coach Jeff Long says his girls soccer team prides itself on defense.

And his defense didn’t let him down Thursday, as the Lady Bulldogs cruised to a 5-0 win against Loyd Star.

“We only allowed four shots on goal, and they all came from outside the box,” head coach Jeff Long said. “We were never really threatened.”

Keeper Macy Zisken had four saves to secure her seventh shutout of the season, and Long credited Shelby Smith, Brianna Brumfield, Kelsi Baron and Brooklin Bowlin for their play on defense.

Si’Edriq Middleton and Harley McKay both had two goals for Franklin County, and Krislyn Kent finished with one goal.

Franklin County (16-0, 6-0) will play at Cathedral High School today.

Franklin County boys 6, Loyd Star 1

Rust was no problem for the Bulldogs as Franklin County didn’t miss a beat despite not practice for two days because of a wet field.

Franklin County topped Loyd Star 6-1 in a game where Long played his junior varsity in the second half, which allowed Loyd Star’s only goal. The Bulldogs led 6-0 at the break.

“Loyd Star maybe crossed midfield three times (in the first half),” Long said. “We really dominated.”

Johnny Moore led Franklin County in scoring with two goals, and Hoby Mullins, Kemo Verdin, Greg Queen and Zayne Mullins each had one goal apiece.

Franklin County (16-0, 6-0) will play at Cathedral today.

ACCS boys 5, Laurel Christian 1

LAUREL — The Adams County Christian School boys soccer team overcame a slow start to put away Laurel Christian School 5-1 in Thursday night soccer action.

Lester Wells tallied a hat trick, or three goals, and Justin Allgood and Ryan Lackey each chipped in with one goal apiece, as the ACCS outscored Laurel 3-0 in the second half after being tied 1-1 at the break.

“I think my guys came out a bit overconfident and maybe overlooked this team a little bit,” ACCS head coach Jimmy Allgood said.

After a pep talk at halftime, though, Jimmy Allgood said his team came out more focused in the second half.

“We got back to the aggressive (style) of soccer we’ve been playing,” Allgood said. “We played 90 percent of the second half on their end of the field, so I was proud of the guys for their second-half play.”

Wells scored his first goal in the third minute of play, but ACCS wouldn’t score again until one minute into the second quarter, when Justin Allgood tallied his one goal. Wells scored again in the 52nd and 61st minute, and Lackey tacked on his goal in minute 75.

ACCS (10-2) will play at Laurel Christian Saturday.
