Mary Rose Winston obitpicNATCHEZ — Services for Mary Rose Winston, 90, of Natchez, who died Friday, Jan. 10, 2014, in Natchez, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Zion Flower Baptist church.

Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Cemetery under the direction of West Gate Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 4 to 5:45 p.m. today and a “Celebration of Life” service from 6 to 7 p.m. today both at the funeral home and from 1 p.m. until service time Saturday at the church.

Mrs. Winston was born March 13, 1923, in Natchez, the daughter of James Winston and Geneva Early.

She received her formal education from Painters, the public school of Natchez, where she excelled in her studies.

She accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age and was baptized under the leadership of the Rev. James Franklin. She later became a member of Zion Flower Missionary Baptist Church, where she remained as a faithful member who truly loved the Lord.

She was employed with Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Hicks, where she worked dutifully for over 20 years before retiring. In her leisure, she enjoyed helping others and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Mrs. Winston was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Tommy Winston Sr.; three brothers, Eli Winston, Luther Winston Sr. and James Winston Jr.; and one sister, Emmaline Winston Washington.

Survivors include her two daughters, Emma Ruth Sewell and husband, Henry Sr., of Natchez, and Doris Gines Jointer, of Brookhaven; one son, Allen Winston Sr., of Natchez; grandchildren, Judy Johnson and husband, Albert, of Natchez, Michael Gines and wife, Teresa, and Adrian Gines, all of Hattiesburg, Tommy Winston Jr. and wife, Pavielle, of Southhaven, Jessica Jointer, of Brookhaven and Courtney Winston, of Monroe; great-grandchildren, Jerald Johnson, Manyontrey Gines, Kalethia Gines, Michael Gines Jr., Jourdan Johnson, Devin Gines, Alexandria Gines and Ayden Tommy Winston; and a number of other relatives and friends.
