NATCHEZ — Jimmy Allgood described it as the biggest win in the Adams County Christian School soccer program’s short history.
ACCS improved to 9-1 on the season with a 4-1 win against Laurel Christian Thursday afternoon, with Lester Wells once again scoring two goals for the Rebels. Justin Allgood and Kyle Williams both chipped in with one goal apiece.
“Laurel has been a state champ probably seven times in the past 12 years,” Jimmy Allgood said. “They’re one of the powerhouses in MAIS soccer, and just a few short years ago, these guys were beating my team, 18-0.”
Wells scored first in the sixth minute after dribbling past the keeper, and Justin Allgood made it 2-0 in the 24th minute on a shot from approximately 30 yards out. The Lions scored once before the half to make it 2-1 at the break.
But Laurel Christian wouldn’t score again in the second half as ACCS added two more goals, one by Wells in the 68th minute and one by Williams in the 73rd minute.
“From the opening touch, our guys came out pedal to the medal,” Jimmy Allgood said. “All 15 of my varsity boys stepped up to the challenge to make history for our first win against Laurel Christian.”
The Rebels will return to action at 1 p.m. Saturday at home against Central Hinds.
