Services for J. T. Robinson Sr., 81, of Jackson, former resident and Chief of Police for the City of Natchez, who died Monday, Feb. 19, 2007, in Ridgeland, will be 2 p.m. today at Laird Funeral Home Union Street Chapel with Father David O’Connor officiating.

Burial will follow at Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Mr. Robinson was born March 2, 1925, in Natchez, the son of John Edward and Minnie Lee Rascoe Robinson. Before finishing high school, he enlisted in the Marine Corps and served in World War II. Upon his return, he completed high school on the GI Bill. Following in his father’s footsteps, he served as a policeman in Natchez from 1947 until 1959. He then served the citizens of Adams County as Chief Criminal Deputy Sheriff from 1960-1961. He was elected as Chief of Police of Natchez from July 1, 1962 until his retirement on Aug. 15, 1982. After his retirement, he moved to Jackson and began working for the State of Mississippi Capital Police beginning April 15, 1985, until his retirement on March 31, 2002. He was a member of St. Mary Basilica, Mississippi Law Enforcement Association, Mississippi Track Club, and the American Legion. He also served as Past President of the Mississippi Chief Association. He loved his wife, Donna, running in races with all of his friends, and taking care of his many animals.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, five sisters; and his very best friend, Herman Calvin Estes of Natchez.

Survivors include his wife and love of his life for 38 years, Donna Allred Robinson of Jackson; children, J. T. “Ted” Robinson Jr. of Monks Corner, S.C., Carl “Bubba” Robinson of Lake St. John, Terry F. Robinson and Lynn Robinson Perry, both of Natchez, and Gwen Robinson Bowen of Valdosta, Ga.; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; lots of nieces, nephews, and good friend, Rick Johnson.
