NATCHEZ — A 24-year-old man suffered third-degree burns in a fire at his East Stiers Lane house Saturday morning.
Natchez Fire Department Battalion Chief David Williams said Dorothy Williams awoke to her find her son, Larry, on fire between 7 to 8 a.m. Saturday at their house, 644 E. Stiers Lane.
Larry suffered third-degree burns on half of his body, Williams said, and his mother suffered minor burns on her arms as she tried to put out the fire, Williams said.
Larry was airlifted to a burn center in Baton Rouge, Williams said.
The fire department is investigating the cause of the fire, which destroyed everything in the house, Williams said.
NFD also responded to two other fires Saturday morning, one on Brookfield Drive and the other on Duck Pond Road.
Williams said NFD is investigating how a fire started on a patio at 125 Brookfield Drive. The flames crawled up the outside wall of the house, but there was not extensive damage, Williams said.
A presumed electrical fire started in the wall of a mobile home at 65 Duck Pond Road, but Williams said the fire was small and did only minor damage.
