Services for Rebecca Nichols, 86, of Fayette, who died Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2007, at her residence, will be 3 p.m. today at Hollywood Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. E.E. Colenberg Sr. officiating.
Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of Spencer Funeral Home, Fayette.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until service time today at the church.
Ms. Nichols was born May 3, 1920, in Jefferson County, the daughter of Charlie and Mamie Stampley Nichols. She was an avid church member. She joined First Baptist Church at an early age, and later joined Hollywood Baptist Church, where she was an active member of the choir, the women’s auxilliary and Sunday school. She was also a faithful member of the Mountain Valley Chapter No. 29 Order of the Eastern Star, Exalted Mother Matron of the youth department and officer of Daughter of Spinx.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Mamie Day; son, Ben Nichols Sr.; five brothers, Charlie Nichols, Willie Nichols, E.B. Nichols Sr., Joseph Nichols and Howard Nichols; two sisters, Sarah Nichols Mitchell and Marie Nichols.
Survivors include daughter, Alberta Wolfe and husband, Leon; son, Issac Jackson and wife, Bettye, of Fayette; daughter-in-law, Laura R. Nichols of Harriston; sister-in-law, Verean Nichols of Fayette; nine grandchildren, Maurice Dunlap and wife, Karen, of Allen, Texas, Felisha Avery and husband, Vincent, of Chicago, Sheryl Cooper and wife, Alfred, of Baton Rouge, Glenda Gordon and husband, Tony, of Natchez, Donna Ellis of Jackson, Samario Wolfe of Nacogdoches, Texas, Ben Nichols Jr. of Natchez, Cedrick Jackson of Vicksburg and Lashandric Nichols of Harriston; 16 great-grandchildren, several special nieces and nephews, other relatives, church family and friends.
