GLOSTER (AP) — A man accused of shooting at two officers and stealing a patrol car hours after he allegedly kidnapped a McComb woman in a late-night home invasion has been captured in Louisiana, Gloster Police said Thursday.
None of the officers was hurt in the incident that happened just after midnight Thursday.
Dennis J. Morgan, 27, of McComb, was captured in Greensburg, La., hours after the alleged kidnapping.
He’s accused of shooting at lawmen, carjacking the Gloster Police chief and leading state troopers on a high speed chase into Louisiana.
Morgan faces two counts of attempted murder of a law enforcement officer and one count of possession of a weapon by a convicted felon. He faces more charges in Mississippi.
A woman narrowly escaped from her captor early Thursday after a man forced his way into her home and kidnapped her at gunpoint in front of her children.
McComb police answered a 911 call from a child shortly after midnight.
Detective Shannon Sullivan said a man apparently knocked on the woman’s door, asking for help. He reportedly asked to be let in, but the woman refused. He asked to use her phone, and she refused again. He then asked her for a ride, which she also refused.
Sullivan said the woman, whose identity is being withheld, could not get the man to leave, so she instructed one of her children to call 911. The man then began kicking in the front door, and after breaking the door’s glass window, reached inside and unlocked it.
The woman reportedly took her kids and fled to the back of the home. Sullivan said the man chased the woman, brandished a pistol and demanded the keys to her car.
After giving up her keys, the intruder reportedly ordered the woman into her vehicle. She complied, and the man drove off. Within a few blocks of her home, the woman saw a relative walking down the street and managed to escape by jumping out of the vehicle.
Sullivan said the woman alerted her relative, prompting the suspect to flee in the vehicle. Details about the shooting, carjacking and chase were not immediately available.
