TALLULAH, La. — A frantic comeback attempt by Vidalia in the fourth quarter came up a little bit short as the Vikings lost to the Tensas High Panthers 64-62 Thursday night at the Madison Parish Tournament.
Vidalia went into the fourth quarter trailing Tensas High 47-39 mainly becasue of two quarters in which the Vikings struggled offensively. They scored just 11 points in the first quarter and were held to 13 points in the third quarter. Their shooting touch came alive in the fourth quarter and they ended scoring 23 points.
However, the Vikings were not able to make enough stops on defense as the Panthers scored 17 points and held on for the hard-fought win.
Isiah Thompson led four Vidalia players in scoring with 16 points. Julius Wilson had 13 points while both Martel Wiley and Overton Lewis added 11 points apiece.
Vidalia (6-4) takes on tournament host Madison Parish at 8 p.m. today.
Monterey girls 43, LaSalle girls 22
MONTEREY — Karlee Woodruff finished with a game-high 13 points and Jody Duncan had 10 points as the Monterey Lady Wolves defeated the LaSalle Lady Tigers 43-22 Thursday night.
Monterey’s defense was a key factor in this game. The Lady Wolves turned what was a close game at the end of the first quarter into a blowout thanks to a 15-2 advantage in the second quarter for a 25-8 halftime lead.
And the Lady Wolves made sure that this would not be near as close as their 40-37 win at LaSalle on Monday night. Monterey kept putting the pressure on the Lady Tigers on both ends of the court in the third quarter en route to a 41-14 lead at the end of the quarter.
Alexa Humphries led LaSalle with 12 points, but only two of her teammates reached the scoring column. Morgan Pecanty added eight points for Monterey.
Monterey (10-7) plays at 6 p.m. Jan. 3 when it hosts Cathedral.
