Police jury adopts budget

NATCHEZ — The Concordia Parish Police Jury adopted Monday a budget with approximately $6.4 million in predicted revenues and $5.8 million expenditures for the 2013-2014 fiscal year.
Police Jury President Melvin said the budget is approximately the same as it was the previous fiscal year.
“We still have to be very, very particular about how we spend it,” Ferrington said.
The largest of the police jury’s expenditures include $1.76 million for public works, roads and highways, approximately $791,600 for road tax payments, approximately $527,200 for the solid waste program and approximately $509,300 for the courthouse and other public buildings.
In other news from the meeting:
• The jury voted to hire Silas Simmons LLP of Natchez to complete the parish’s 2013 audit.
• The jury approved the reappointments of Jackie Young to the Concordia Parish Library Board for a five-year term beginning Jan. 1 and Dorothy Dew and Dempsey Hillen to the Concordia Parish Fire District No. 2 Board of Commissioners.
