NATCHEZ — Funeral services for Mattie Chaney Lewis, 91, of Natchez, who died Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013, at Adams County Nursing Home, will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Salem Baptist Church in Stampley with the Rev. Joe Pickett officicating.
Burial will follow in the Salem Baptist Church Cemetery under the direction of Robert D. Mackel & Sons Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from noon to 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Lewis was born Nov. 3, 1922, the daughter of James Chaney and Inetta Lee Chaney Green.
She was educated in the Jefferson County Public Schools. She was baptized in 1937, the same year she married Henry Lewis. She worked as a housekeeper/cook until her retirement from Harper & Harper Antiques.
She enjoyed cooking and socializing. She loved her church, where she served as an usher for over 50 years and later became president of the Usher Board.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Ruby McNair; brothers, David Chaney, Allen Chaney, Marshall Green and Dan Green.
Survivors include one sister, Senetta G. Smith, of Manhattan, brothers, Cleveland McNair and wife, Louise, of Houston, and Earl Green and wife, Levata, of Natchez; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
