NATCHEZ — Some of Natchez’s residents most in need are those who have enjoyed many Christmases before us.

Natchez Senior Citizen Multi-purpose Center Director Sabrena Bartley said there are a number of Natchez senior citizens on the waiting list for the center’s services.

The senior center’s services include adult day care, home delivery service for meals, meals provided on-site at the center, elderly and disabled transportation, fitness and educational programs and more.

Bartley said $110 will sponsor meals Monday-Friday for a month for one senior.

She said $52 will cover the cost of transportation services for a senior provided by the center for one month.

The senior center is in need of a microwave to help prepare food for the meals the staff prepares at the center, Bartley said.

Gift card donations from local grocery stores, such as Walmart or the Markets, are also needed, Bartley said. The gift cards, she said, are distributed according to need and allow seniors to buy blankets, groceries or other needed items.

Volunteers are also needed to hand out food baskets this holiday season, Bartley said.

The senior center serves more than 400 residents, and donations go to providing services directly to individuals.

“Seniors are just in need in this community, and we want to be the arm that really reaches out and touches them this holiday season, like we do every day, but in particular this holiday season,” Bartley said.

Donations can be mailed or dropped off at the center at 800 Washington St., Natchez, MS, 39120.

Donations may also be made to the Natchez-Adams Council on Aging through the United Way.
