BROOKHAVEN — Lester Wells scored the go-ahead goal at the 28th minute of the first half as the Adams County Christian School Rebels remained undefeated with a 3-1 win over the Brookhaven Academy Cougars Tuesday afternoon.
However, it took some time for ACCS to get going in its first game in nearly a week and a half. But once that happened, the only thing Brookhaven Academy could do was keep the final score from being any worse.
“My guys came out a little sluggish. It looked like a little of the turkey and dressing showed up,” Rebels head coach Jimmy Allgood said. “After they scored, we turned up the intensity.”
The Cougars scored on a corner kick in the sixth minute of the game to jump out to a quick 1-0 lead. But a miscue in front of their own net while trying to clear a shot attempt by Parker Rymer led to an own goal and a 1-1 game at the 14th minute.
Wells’ goal put ACCS ahead 2-1 and Justin Allgood scored at the 32nd minute that gave the Rebels a 3-1 halftime lead. And they had their chances to add to their lead in the second half, but the Cougars’ goalkeeper made some good saves to keep it at that score the rest of the game.
“The whole second half, our guys totally shut them down,” coach Allgood said. “We took 28 shots on goal. Probably 90 percent of the second half was played on their end of the field. That’s a big win for us.”
Rebels goalkeeper Zach Pintard had a solid performance with seven saves on eight shots on goal.
ACCS (3-0) hosts Veritas School today at 3:30 p.m.
