NATCHEZ — With an all-star cast in Natchez for the filming of the James Brown biopic “Get On Up,” locals say they are seeing stars in restaurants, bars and just about everywhere in town.
Andrew’s Tavern bartender and Magnolia Grill server Elyse Sanders said she has seen several cast and crewmembers in the tavern and the restaurant.
One of the cast members, she said, tipped her $1,000 at Andrew’s.
“I was stunned,” she said. “I was having a bad day … and I just kind of felt like it was a blessing.”
Lauren Burns recently met Chadwick Boseman, who stars as Brown in the film, and director Tate Taylor at a Natchez Convention and Visitors Bureau and Natchez Inc. event welcoming the cast and crew to Natchez.
Burns said Boseman and Taylor were down-to-earth and incredibly friendly at the event.
“They were both very nice and seemed very excited to be in Natchez,” she said.
Callie Godfrey ran into Craig Robinson, who starred in “The Office” and “This Is the End,” at The Castle Restaurant & Pub.
“He is super nice, and it was good to meet him,” she said.
Sanders said having the filming of “Get On Up” and its cast and crew in Natchez has been beneficial to the community.
“Not only because of the jobs it has created, but everybody I have talked to that has ran into them has told me how kind they are and how good they have been to the locals,” she said.
“Get On Up” will continue filming through Dec. 20, break for the holidays and pick back up Jan. 6-24 in Jackson.
The film will depict Brown’s life from when he was nearly 5 years old in 1938 until he was about 60 in 1993.
