NATCHEZ — Mayor Butch Brown and two aldermen will join the more than 300 officials expected to attend the Small Town Conference in Tunica today and Friday.

Ward 1 Alderwoman Joyce Arceneaux-Mathis and Ward 2 Alderman Ricky Gray are attending the Mississippi Municipal League conference with Brown.

The purpose of the conference is to “give municipal elected officials, particularly those from the smaller cities and towns, the opportunity to meet together and share ideas and challenges unique to their communities,” according to MML.

Brown said the conference is beneficial to Natchez officials because it focuses on small towns.

“It eliminates the bigger cities and really focuses on small-town issues,” he said. “Anytime I (travel) somewhere, it’s all about what I can bring home to Natchez, whether it’s a best practice or money.”

The conference’s theme is “Taking Main Street Mainstream” and will feature sessions on appointing school board members, searching for grants, debt management and social media for small towns.
