NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS — Funeral services for Richard R. Crisp, 85, of Nacogdoches, who died Sunday, Nov. 17, 2013, were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2013, at Laird Funeral Home with the Rev. Allen Reed and Rev. Raymond Robbins officiating.

Burial followed at the Sunset Memorial Park in Nacogdoches under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation was Tuesday at Laird Funeral Home.

Mr. Crisp was born Oct. 9, 1928, son of Thomas “T.G.” Gray Crisp and Minnie “Jewel” Simmons Crisp on Orton Hill in Nacogdoches, Texas.

Mr. Crisp was a member of the Texas State Guard and he proudly served his country as a Sergeant in the US Air Force at the end of World War II He attended Nacogdoches High School, Nacogdoches Business College and was a Mule Rider at Southern State College in Magnolia, Ark. In his younger years he worked as an oil field hand in South Texas and as a machinist at Hughes Tools in Houston.

He worked for International Paper Company for 33 years, starting as administrative accountant in Camden, Ark. and later as regional maintenance co-coordinator for the Ark-La-Tex in Shreveport. He was also a regional maintenance director and was transferred to Natchez. After retiring, he did consulting work for 11 years.

He was an avid outdoorsman, he loved to hunt and fish. He was a grand storyteller and a true gentleman. Most of all he was a loving gather, husband and grandfather. He was loved by all of his family and many friends. He will be greatly missed. He loved his Lord Jesus Christ.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 44 years, Janette Tucker Crisp; brothers, Fred Crisp and Floyd Crisp and sister, Sarah Slate.

Survivors include his wife of 14 years, Norma Jean R. Green Crisp; son Tucker Crisp and wife, Donna, of Natchez, daughter, Lisa E. Gray of Nacogdoches; step sons, William Scott Green and wife, Paige, of Austin, Texas and Craig R. Green and wife, Michelle, of Katy, Texas; grandchildren, Richard Bannon Gray and wife, Ruth, Katie E. Gray, Dr. Tyler A. Crisp and wife, Ashley, of Lexington, Ky.; step grandchildren, Hunter Green, Amber Green, Vance Green and Joyce Green; great-grandchildren, Jonathan and Jared Gray and Audrey J. Crisp.

Pallbearers were Kim Crisp, Ben Crisp, Bob Tucker, Neal Quillan, Ronnie Slate, Danny Slate and Craig Slate.

Honorary pallbearers were Kerr SS First Baptist Church of Nacogdoches, Jim Byrd and International Paper Class of ‘85.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to Dr. Richard Baker, Dr. Binusha Moitheennazima, Bethany Home Health and Jim Bob Cody.
