BROOKHAVEN — Adams County Christian School’s varsity boys’ soccer team went 1-1 Saturday at the Loyd Star Invitational Soccer Tournament at the Hansel King Complex, defeating the Brookhaven Panthers 5-1 before losing to the Franklin County Bulldogs 2-0.

In the Rebels’ opening match, Dylan Galbreath scored the team’s first goal at the 18th minute. Seven minutes later, Lester Wells scored the first of his two goals and Sam Butler added a goal at the 36th minute to give ACCS a 3-0 halftime lead.

“We had fantastic play against Brookhaven,” Allgood said. “Overall, it was a very top-notch game by everyone.”

Brookhaven scored at the 47th minute to make it a 3-1 game. ACCS scored at the 63rd minute go back on top by three goals and Wells finished off the Panthers with a goal at the 68th minute.

“Our passing, trapping and shooting skills were fantastic,” Allgood said. “It was a fantastic first game overall. A fantastic first half was played in the second contest.”

Despite being held without a goal against a very good Franklin County team, Allgood said he was pleased with the team’s performance.

Hoby Mullins scored the first goal for the Bulldogs at the 28th minute and then Zayne Mullins scored at the 77th minute.

“Franklin County is probably one of the best teams in our region. They almost played for the state championship in (MHSAA Class 1A/2A/3A),” Allgood said. “So, for us to stand up that good to Franklin County is a positive.”

After Hoby Mullins scored what Allgood described as an “outstanding” goal in the first half, the Rebels did a good job of limiting the Bulldogs’ scoring opportunities for a big part of the match.

“First half, we had lock-down defense and several scoring opportunities, which did not find the back of the next,” Allgood said. He added that he was ecstatic that his team held the Bulldogs to one goal until Zayne Mullins’ goal in the latter stages of the match.

“The boys played 150 percent. We’ve got to get in better shape, though,” Allgood said. “But overall, I was very happy with the performance.”

The Lady Rebels did not fare quite as well as their male counterparts, going 0-2 in pool play action.

ACCS’s varsity boys’ team returns to action Wednesday at Veritas School for one game at 4 p.m.

Franklin County’s varsity boys’ and varsity girls’ teams advanced to the tournament finals. The Lady Bulldogs defeated the Wesson Lady Cobras 2-0 in the girls’ finals with Siedriq Middleton and Harley McKay each scoring a goal and Macy Ziskin preserving the shutout with seven saves.

The Bulldogs held on for a 2-1 win over the Wesson Cobras in the boys’ finals. Hoby and Zayne Mullins each scored a goal and Nathanial Verdin had four saves.

The Lady Bulldogs got to the finals by defeating the North Pike Lady Jaguars 1-0 and the host Loyd Star Lady Hornets 5-0. The Bulldogs reached the finals by not only defeating ACCS, but also the North Pike Jaguars 3-0.

Both of Franklin County’s varsity teams improved to 6-0 on the season and will next play Tuesday night at Brookhaven High School.
