NATCHEZ — Movie officials filming a James Brown biopic in Natchez are in need of vehicles spanning from the 1950s to the 1980s for a variety of scenes.

Tim Walters, picture car coordinator for “Get On Up,” is seeking non-modified, four-door sedans and other vintage cars for two scenes being filmed in Natchez.

The first scene is set in 1965 and will be filmed on Nov. 20.

“That scene will be as if we were in Cincinnati, so we’re looking for any kind of car that would match the time period from 1950 to 1965,” Walters said. “For the other scene, we need family cars from the mid 1970s to 1988 for a parking lot scene.”

The parking lot scene will be filmed Nov. 21 and 22.

Walters said the cars will be photographed before a decision is made on which ones will be used.

Those whose cars get selected for filming, Walters said, will receive a stipend.

“We pay them an undisclosed amount of money,” he said. “I can pay a little more for some of the older cars. They will be compensated.”

Tate Taylor, who also directed the Academy Award-nominated film “The Help,” is directing the film.

Crews will continue filming in Natchez through Dec. 20 before taking a break for the holidays and picking back up from Jan. 6 through 24 in Jackson.

The film will depict Brown’s life from when he was nearly 5 years old in 1938 until he was about 60 in 1993.
