NATCHEZ — A Natchez man was arrested this week on allegations he poured a flammable substance on a woman and lit her on fire during a domestic disturbance.

Charles E. Cameron Jr., 43,  was charged Wednesday with aggravated assault — domestic violence by the Natchez Police Department.

According to Lt. Craig Godbold, police responded to Natchez Community Hospital Monday for a domestic violence call. At the hospital, the victim — a woman in her mid-20s — told police Cameron had allegedly beaten her and poured a fuel on her before lighting it at their shared residence at 17 Horseshoe Drive.

The victim received burns to her abdomen, for which she was treated and released, Godbold said.

After obtaining a search warrant, police were able to obtain evidence at the residence to charge Cameron with aggravated assault, Godbold said.

Cameron has previous domestic violence convictions for domestic violence with two separate relationships in Adams County, Godbold said.

Cameron is currently booked into the Adams County Sheriff’s Office jail on a charge of violation of a protective order, an order Godbold said was not related to the victim in Monday’s reported crime.

No bond has been set for Cameron with the NPD or the ACSO.
