Rev. Moses Murphy

NATCHEZ — Services for the Rev. Moses Alexander Murphy, 63, of Natchez, who died Sunday, July 15, 2007, at University Medical Center, in Jackson, will be noon Saturday at Daughter of Zion Baptist Church with the Rev. D. W. Howard officiating.
Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of George F. West Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Rev. Murphy was born Dec. 24, 1943, in Natchez, the son of Phillip and JoAnna Murphy. He was a graduate of Sadie V. Thompson High School and attended Natchez Junior College. He also attended Baptist Seminary in Washington, D.C. Rev. Murphy was a federal employee. He served in the U.S. Army and served as a sergeant. He was retired.
Rev. Murphy was a member of Daughter of Zion Baptist Church and served as associate minister. He also served as the adult Sunday School teacher. He was a member of M.W.W.W.T. Grant Jr. Masonic Lodge Cloverhill No. 13 and Order of Eastern Star Edna Anderson Chapter No. 11. He was a member of the Willing Workers Auxiliary at his church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Jessie L. Murphy and Walter W. Murphy.
Survivors include his daughters, Monique Murphy Jones and husband, Brien, and Michelle A. Murphy, all of Memphis, Tenn.; granddaughters, Bradleigh and Makenzie Jones; brothers, Phillip C. Murphy Jr. of Washington, D.C. and John D. Murphy of Natchez; sisters, Susie Murphy Haywood of Natchez and Angie Murphy Reeves and husband, Emanuel, of Memphis; sister-in-law, Permelia L. Murphy of Natchez; god sisters, Laura Dunmore and Laura Hawkins, both of Natchez and Tanya L. Santucci of Atlanta, Ga.; a host of other relatives and friends.
