Rachel Buckles

EDDICETON — Services for Rachel Scott Buckles, 83, of Denver, Colo., formerly of Natchez, who died Friday, July 20, 2007, at Evergreen Terrace Nursing Home, in Denver, will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church.

Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. until service time Thursday at the church.

Mrs. Buckles was born Nov. 30, 1923, the daughter of A.J. Scott Jr. and Lois Elizabeth Murray Scott. She was a loyal and devoted wife and mother her entire life. She was a devoted Christian of the Baptist faith, serving her church as a pianist and Sunday School teacher for many years. Gardening, gospel music and spending time with family and friends were her greatest interest and pasttime.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Claudie Everett Buckles; sisters, Allene Scott and Janette Scott Smith; brothers, Ernest Scott, A.J. Scott, and Thomas Aaron Scott; a grandson, Timothy Rydzewski.

Survivors include her daughter, Patsy Irene Ramirez and husband, Pete, of Denver; sons, Leland Wallace Buckles and wife, Sandra, of Byhailia and Everett “Gene” Buckles and wife, Betty Gill Buckles, of Brookhaven; sisters, Francis Scott Flowers and Winnie Scott, both of Eddiceton; brother, Sherrod Scott and wife, LaFerrye Lynn, of Pensacola, Fla.; granddaughter, Angela Crowley and husband, Chris, of Starkville; grandsons, Thomas Bradley “Brad” Buckles of Brookhaven and Gregory “Greg” Dean Buckles of Mangham, La.; step-grandsons, Dustin “Dusty” Keene of Brookhaven, Trent Walker of West Virginia and Brad Walker of Natchez; 14 great-grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews.
