BROOKHAVEN — Services for Charlene Moore Porter, 81, of McCall Creek, who died Saturday, July 28, 2007, at her residence, will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Brookhaven Funeral Home, on Natchez Drive, with Dr. Harold Anderson and her great-nephew, Travis Smith officiating.
Burial will follow at Riverwood Memorial Park Cemetery, in Brookhaven, under the direction of Brookhaven Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Porter was born Sept. 18, 1925, in Lincoln County, the daughter of Jack Albert Moore and Maude Rushing Moore. She was a 1944 graduate of Brookhaven High School. She married John Orsey Porter Jr. in 1947. They enjoyed 37 years of marriage. She retired in 1980 following a successful career with Bell Telephone Company, working in Brookhaven, McComb, Jackson and Natchez. During her career, she enjoyed making friends with her co-workers and creating a lasting friendship among them. Upon her retirement, her energies were focused on her family and church family at McCall Creek Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John Orsey Porter Jr.; and brothers, M.J. and Robert K. Moore.
Survivors include nephew, John W. Moore and family of McCall Creek; sisters-in-law, Wanda Porter Smith and family of Fulton, Md., and JoAnn Porter Gill and husband, Russell, and their children of Avondale, La.; cousins, James Dudley, Donald, Diane Harris, Martin and Larry Keene and their families, all of Brookhaven; and a large adopted family including very special friends, Joe and Ann Fortenberry of Tylertown. These survivors expressed their love and caring throughout her life time.
Memorials may be made to McCall Creek Baptist Church Building Fund, Baptist Children’s Village, Baptist Missions, or Meadville United Methodist Mission Fund.
