NATCHEZ — Decorated bras will don the fence along the Natchez bluff Saturday in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month.
A variety of indoor and outdoor events are also scheduled for the weekend. Sunny skies are forecast for a majority of the weekend with temperatures dropping to the 70s.
Bras on the Bluff
Team Tatas, a Miss-Lou Relay for Life team, is spearheading a campaign to decorate the bluff with hundreds of bras in support of breast cancer awareness.
Meg Freeman, who is captain of Team Tatas, said the initial idea came from a group in Vicksburg who orchestrated a similar project along the Mississippi River Bridge.
“I am so very excited to see that this is really going to happen and everything is going to come together,” Freeman said. “I keep hearing all these people who I don’t even know or on Facebook talking about the event.”
Women, men and children are encouraged to decorate a bra to whatever extent they choose.
For a fee of $2, the decorated bras will be hung on the fence on the bluff Saturday.
Decorated bras can be dropped off at Silas Simmons LLP on North Commerce Street or at the Gillon Group on Main Street until Friday.
Bras can also be turned in Saturday at the event.
Raffle tickets with hundreds of prizes can be purchased.
Music, food, silent auctions and other events will also be available on the bluff starting at 1 p.m. Saturday.
Broadway Street will be blocked off, and the crowd will judge the decorated bras at 6:30 p.m.
All proceeds from the event will go to the American Cancer Society.
