Vidalia — Vidalia High School head coach Gary Parnham Jr. said his Vikings would have to play the perfect game in order to pull an upset against top-ranked Caldwell Parish High School.

With just two games left, and a winless district record, the Vikings are hoping to make the highlight of their season Friday and shock the Spartans at home.

“We’d have to play about as perfect of a football game as we possibly can play,” Parnham said. “Anybody can be beat on any given day, but we won’t be able to make the same mistakes we have been making, especially at their place.

“They’re undefeated (8-0) right now and it’ll be tough. They’re big, fast and strong so it’ll be a big time challenge. “

Though the Vikings’ playoffs chances are slim to none, Parnham said getting a win against Caldwell would be a tremendous way to end the season.

“It’d be a big boost, and it would give them a lot of confidence going into the end of the season,” he said.

Parnham said the past week has been about ending the season in high spirits, and getting a head start on preparing for a better 2014 season.

“We’re having these guys work as hard as possible before the end of the season,” Parnham said. “We’re trying to get as much work in as we can and build towards next year, and finish strong this year.”

Parnham said their practices have been about sharpening their mental aspects and their assignments more than anything.

“We’ve been correcting mistakes and being fundamentally sound,” he said.

The Vikings play at Caldwell Parish at 7 p.m. Friday.
