VIDALIA — Services for Calvin D. West Jr., 75, of Vidalia who died Thursday, Sept. 13, 2007, at his residence, will be at 2:30 p.m. today at Laird Funeral Home Union Street Chapel with the Rev. Paul Southerland officiating.
Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Visitation will be today from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
Mr. West was born March 28, 1932, in Greenville, Ala., the son of Calvin D. West Sr. and Estelle Boyd West. He was a member of Highland Baptist Church. Mr. West was a charter member of M & D Hunting Club and International Wildlife Association. Mr. West was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War on the USS Cowell, receiving the Good Conduct Medal for service ending June, 1952.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Glenda Hoover West; brother-in-law, J.D. Thames; and uncle, Ernest B. West.
Survivors include his sister, Sue West Thames of Brookhaven; his nieces and their spouses, Cindy and David Kennedy, Joni and David Culpepper, all of Brookhaven, Becky and David Bush of Jackson, Kathy and Freddie Tyson, Nell and Ricky Byrd, all of Vidalia, Mitzi and Ricky Bolyer of Ferriday; nephew, John Thames of Brookhaven.
Pallbearers will be L.E. Smith, Jack Langston, James Stigall, Toxie Burnette, Harvey Morris, and Sylan Gremillion.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Riley Mitchell, Wayne Bolyer, Freddie Joe Tyson, Jerry Stowers, Lawrence Cockerham, Vidalia Fire Department employees, and Brent Gore.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Concordia Animal Welfare Shelter.
