FERRIDAY – Services for Howard L. Jackson, 66, of Ferriday, who died Saturday, Sept. 22, 2007, at his residence, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Harvest Baptist Church.

Burial will follow at Natchez National Cemetery under the direction of Concordia Funeral Home in Ferriday.

Visitation services will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the church.

Mr. Jackson was born Oct. 26, 1940, in Calvin, the son of Oren and Mary Garner Jackson. He was employed with Concordia Parish School Board as a Child Welfare Supervisor. He was a member of Doty Road Church of God and a former member of Triumph Baptist Church in Vidalia. Mr. Jackson served in the U.S. Army and the Mississippi National Guard, having served during the Vietnam War and Desert Storm. He was a graduate of Grambling State University, Northeast State University, ULM, and studied at the Tuskegee University.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Otis Jackson, and sister, Gladys Robinson.

Survivors include his wife, Bertha Matthews Jackson of Ferriday; daughters, Tunya L. Redvine and husband, Stafford, Sonja D. Jackson and De’Shun L. Jackson; sons, Oren H. Jackson, all of Arlington, Texas and Jerry Edwards Sr. and wife, Alsena, currently in the U.S. Army in Afghanistan; brother, James C. Jackson and wife, Betty, of Lafayette; sisters, Ernestine Durham of Winnfield and Mable Holts and husband, Leon, of Bunkie; nine grandchildren and a great-grandchild; a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
