Centreville — The Centreville Academy Tigers are looking to finish their district schedule with a perfect 4-0 record when they face Central Private Academy Friday.

Assistant coach Brian Stutzman said Friday’s game would be the cornerstone of the remainder of their season.

“Hopefully, we’ll come out undefeated in conference, and it’ll give us one of the top six spots in the playoffs,” Stutzmans said. “That’s what we’ll be shooting for.”

Stutzman also said the Tigers’ play against Bowling Green Academy last week was less than satisfying.

Stutzman said pulling out the win despite not playing their best showed a lot of heart from his players.

“We started off sluggish,” Stutzman said. “We committed some turnovers early, but we came out in the second half and pulled away from them.

“We just eliminated those turnovers in the second half, and we were able to finish our drives.”

As Centreville heads into the last three games of its season, Stutzman said great conditioning is something they must continue to pursue.

“We’re still preaching conditioning,” he said. “We didn’t have anybody cramp up (last week), which is good.”

Stutzman said his team understands how important conditioning will be in the last leg of their regular season schedule.

“They know the importance of it, and I feel like we’re ready to play,” he said.

Centreville will host Central Private at 7 p.m. Friday.

Wilkinson County Christian Academy

WOODVILLE — Wilkinson County Christian Academy head coach David Wright said his team’s 2-5 record doesn’t prove anything but how tough their schedule has been.

And what Wright has been doing, he said, is preparing the Rams for the postseason.

“I tell them to try not to look at our record,” Wright said. “We played bigger schools that’ll hopefully get us ready for the playoffs.”

The team standing in the Rams’ way of the playoffs is Tallulah Academy, which faces WCCA Friday. Wright said they must come together and get the victory if they want to be sure they’ll still be playing in November.

“This game against Tallulah is very important,” Wright said. “It will secure a playoff spot for us and get us going in the right direction.”

Wright said he is confident in his team’s progress so far this season.

“We’re getting back to the focus of WCCA football, and we’re playing hard,” he said.

But defensively, Wright said there are a few things that need tweaking if they want to be successful against Tallulah.

“On defensive side of the ball, we’re going to need for our line to step up,” Wright said. “I look for Sam Nicholas and Luke Littleton to be our leaders there.”

WCCA will play at Tallulah Academy at 7 p.m. Friday.
