NATCHEZ — Adams County Christian School takes a break in its district schedule tonight to take on Glenbrook School out of Minden, La, for homecoming.

ACCS defensive coordinator Richy Spears said he expected the game to be a defensive struggle, and he expects his players to face a multi-dimensional offense from the Apaches.

“They like to mix it up,” Spears said. “They can run and throw, and they have good skill guys and a good line. They’re not one-dimensional — if something isn’t working, they can go to something else. They’re a well-coached team, and we’re going to have to play disciplined.”

ACCS (5-1, 1-0) has been on a roll as of late, winning three in a row after a 34-12 loss to Centreville Academy Sept. 6. Spears said he’s been happy with the way certain players have taken the reigns on the field.

“I feel like we’ve had some kids step up as better leaders,” Spears said. “They decided they wanted this season to be something special, and they wanted to finish the season strong instead of just playing. We’ve had numerous kids step up who are helping the other ones that don’t understand things as well.”

Another big difference for the Rebels has been the reduction in mental miscues as of late, Spears said.

“We’re getting less penalties and turnovers ever since the Centreville game,” Spears said. “We’re just trying to take care of what we can.”

While homecoming festivities are always fun for the students, Spears said they could pose a challenge for the coaches leading up to the game.

“It’s always more fun to win at homecoming than it is to lose,” Spears said. “This is a test for us. We’re trying to keep all of these distractions at bay and focus on another Double-A opponent. We might see these guys again in the playoffs.”

ACCS will kick off at 7 p.m. today.
