LORMAN — The Ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. of Alcorn State University are bringing back their once-popular Zelta Delta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc.’s 2nd Biennial Scholarship Golf Tournament for the first time since 2007.
The tournament will take place Oct. 12 at Duncan Golf Park.
Committee Chairwoman Keshia Sanders said she came up with the idea to revive the fundraiser.
“I remembered this was a big event when we last did it, and I suggested it to other members of the sorority and they agreed,” Sanders said. “Now we’re trying to make it even bigger.”
Sanders said the tournament’s purpose is to help high school students complete their dream of attending college.
“It’s to raise money for scholarships and help local high school kids,” she said. “We have different scholarships that we distribute every year.”
Though the 2007 tournament was a huge success, the Ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. have bigger plans for the 2013 edition.
“Our goal is at least $10,000 so we can expand our scholarships to other schools outside of Wilkinson County,” Sanders said. “We just want to get more involved in the community.”
Sanders said there would be several prizes given away during the tournament.
“There’s a really nice grand prize this year,” she said. “I’m excited to see who wins that.”
Registration is from 7:30 to 8:45 a.m. Oct. 12. The fee for a single person is $100 and $300 for a three-player team.
Pearl sponsors give $500 for one team, Alpha sponsors give $1000 for two teams and there are also single players sponsors for $300, called the Ivy Sponsor.
Tee times begin at 9 a.m. Oct .12.
