NATCHEZ — Forecasted showers and thunderstorms might dampen some outdoor events, but plenty of indoor events will keep residents entertained in the Miss-Lou this weekend.

Rain is forecasted for a majority of Friday and Saturday with sunny skies returning by Sunday.

Bark in the Park

The annual Natchez-Adams County Humane Society fundraiser will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Grand Village.

The event is the largest fundraiser for the NACHS and includes contests, raffles, concessions and T-shirt sales.

Some of the most highly anticipated parts of the Bark in the Park are the contests, which include:

• Cutest puppy (6 weeks to four months)

• Most handsome male

• Most beautiful female

• Best owner look-alike

• Most talented

• Best dressed

• Best smile

• Best tail wag

• Mr. and Miss NACHS

All of the contests are subjective and up to the judges.

The only contests with qualifications are Mr. and Miss NACHS, which require the entrants to be adopted from the NACHS shelter.

Entry for each contest is $2 per dog.

Animals will also be available for adoption at Bark in the Park, but must still be spayed or neutered before leaving the shelter.

In the event of rain or severe weather, the event will be postponed until Oct. 26.

The humane society will also host a kitten adoption day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Natchez Mall near the theater entrance.

Rummage sale

Junior Auxiliary of Natchez will host its bi-annual rummage sale from 8 a.m. to noon Friday and from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday at the Duncan Park Canteen.

Donations are still being accepted at the canteen from noon to 1 p.m. and from 5 to 7 p.m. today. Acceptable items include furniture, home decor, electronics and tools. Used clothing is not acceptable. All donations are tax deductible.

Vidalia cemetery cleanup

The annual Vidalia Cemetery Fall cleanup will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday at the cemetery.

The public is invited to attend and encouraged to bring lawn mowers, weed eaters, rakes or any other yard equipment to help with the cleanup.

A light lunch will be served at noon.

American Energy Diversity Group

Louisiana four-term Gov. Edwin Edwards will be a guest speaker at an ethnic diversity conference on energy Friday and Saturday at the Isle of Capri Casino hotel presented by the American Energy Diversity Group.

The conference offers residents an opportunity to meet and interact with energy companies, executive project directors for new project expansions, aspiring entrepreneurs and others.

Fall pilgrimage

Natchez Fall Pilgrimage continues through Oct. 14 with 16 historic houses on tour throughout the annual event.

Most tours feature three houses each — with a tour in the morning, 9 a.m. until 12:30 p.m., and in the afternoon, 1:30 to 5 p.m. Two tours include two houses.

Six other historic mansions and properties will be on tour throughout Pilgrimage for an additional charge.

The tours are color-coded with signs leading visitors through the city and into the countryside from house to house.

Tickets are $30 per person for the three-house tour. A two-house tour is available for $20. Tickets for children ages 6 to 13 traveling with their families are $18 and $12, respectively. Tour tickets are available only at the Natchez Visitor Reception Center, located at 640 S. Canal St. Individual full-price tickets for Longwood, Rosalie and Stanton Hall can also be purchased at the visitors’ center or at the houses.

Humane society yard sale

The Natchez-Adams County Humane Society will host a yard sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday and Saturday featuring a variety of items such as furniture, clothes and purses, among other things.

All proceeds from the yard sale will go toward the humane society.

The yard sale will be near the intersection of Seargent S. Prentiss Drive and South Shields Lane.

Natchez Little Theatre

Mississippi’s oldest community theatre will present for the Civil War Sesquicentennial and Natchez Fall Pilgrimage, Louisa May Alcott’s beloved classic, “Little Women.”

Two casts will perform the show at 7:30 p.m. every Friday, Saturday, Monday and Wednesday through Oct. 14, as well as one Sunday matinee at 2 p.m. on Oct. 13, with $15 tickets.

Friday forum

This week’s speakers will be discussing Catholic Charities. The event begins at 8 a.m. Friday at Natchez Coffee Company.

Friday football

Adams County Christian School will host Glenbrook, Ferriday High School will host West St. Mary and Vidalia High School will host St. Frederick.

All games begin at 7 p.m. Friday.

International Paper reunion 

A reunion for all former employees of International Paper Company will be Friday through Sunday.

The reunion will get started at 6 p.m. Friday with a “Get Reacquainted Night” at the Pine Tree Tech building at the former mill site.

A family fun day will be hosted from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Saturday. The activities will be at Pine Tree Tech building and grounds.

The reunion will close with a memorial service in remembrance of the deceased former employees. The time and place of the service will be determined by the first day of the reunion.
