NATCHEZ—Funeral Services for Larry Philip Nix, 70, of Brandon, formerly of Natchez, who died Sunday, Sept. 29, 2013, at Crossgates River Oaks Hospital in Brandon, was at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Laird Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Truman Stagg officiating.
Burial followed at Greenlawn Mermorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Mr. Nix was born July 1, 1943, in Brookhaven. He was retired from Armstrong Tire & Rubber Company. Mr. Nix helped start baseball and basketball teams at the YMCA. He coached the YMCA boys to their first state win. Larry loved all sports and was an avid fan of he Mississippi and Atlanta Braves. He officiated or refereed at junior high school, high school and junior college level games in private and public schools for 20 years. He was affiliated with the Gulf Oil tournament for over 30 years. Mr. Nix was a big supporter of the Natchez-Adams County Humane Society, as well as on the state level.
Survivors include, his wife, Ruth Nix of Brandon; one daughther, Lori Nix Brooks and husband, Todd of Brandon; step-mother, Tommie Jean Nix of Natchez; one grandson, Tristan Philip McDaniel; four brothers, John C “Sparky” Evans and wife, Debie of Vidalia, Jerry Evans and wife, Cindy, of Ridgecrest, John Harry Nix and wife, Karen, of New Iberia and David Nix and wife, Cindy, of Waxahachie, Texas; one sister, Donna Fitzgerald and husband, Don, of Cleveland; a special aunt, Brenda Temple of Vidalia; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were, John C. “Sparky” Evans, John Harry Nix, Tristan McDaniel, Charles E. “Chuck” McDaniel, Steven Evans and Chad Moon.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Natchez-Adams County Humane Society.
