NATCHEZ — Adams County Sheriff’s Office deputies will methodically make their way through the county Tuesday night, moving from south to north, letting their presence be known.

But it won’t be a big crime sweep that takes the ACSO from Sibley to Kingston, to Broadmoor and then Morgantown — it’s National Night Out.

Started in 1984, National Night Out is a law enforcement outreach program intended to introduce members of the community to law enforcement officials and promote crime prevention activities, such as Neighborhood Watch programs.

“Our main objective is to keep Adams County citizens safe,” Sheriff Chuck Mayfield said. “We are trying our best to not just patrol and protect our county, but be a part of each community and gain the trust of the people we serve daily.”

The ACSO’s National Night Out events will be from 6 to 9 p.m.

Scheduled stops include:

• In Sibley, Perry’s Welding on Peddle Lane off of West Hutchings Landing Road.
• In Kingston, the Kingston Schoolhouse
• In Broadmoor, the Broadmoor Community Center
• In Morgantown, the Church of God of Prophecy on Myrtle Drive.

Natchez, Vidalia and Ferriday Police Departments had a National Night Out event in August.

The ACSO’s participation coincides with the alternate date some participants in southern states use to avoid summer heat.
