Hoopskirts, barbecue and football made last week fly by in the Miss-Lou.

Let’s recap some of the highlights before we begin the week ahead:

Fall Pilgrimage kicked off with great weather and tours of antebellum houses in Natchez. The annual event lasts through Oct. 14 with 16 historic houses on tour. We welcome the tourists who are visiting our city and thank those who are opening their doors to tell the stories of historic Natchez.

The annual Jim Bowie Festival and Barbecue Throwdown came and went with 39 local and out-of-town teams competing in the competition. A camera crew with the Travel Channel show, “BBQ Crawl,” also documented the event. We’ve enjoyed watching this event grow and hope it continues to be a success in the future.

Residents gathered to bid farewell to former library director Susan Cassagne and welcome new director Pamela Plummer.

Plummer will take over the Judge George W. Armstrong Library in Natchez Oct. 7. Cassagne was hired as director of the Mississippi Library Commission. We wish Cassagne the best in her new role and extend a warm welcome to Plummer.

Vidalia High School senior Xavier Bell has been a part of 4-H since he was in the fourth grade. He will soon travel to Atlanta for a national event hosted by the organization.

Bell is a member of 4-H’s statewide executive board and enjoys the leadership opportunities the organization offers. We know Bell will represent the Miss-Lou well in Atlanta.

A wet week filled with showers and thunderstorms could be in store for our area, but don’t let that dampen your spirits as we begin another week in the Miss-Lou.
