NATCHEZ — Cathedral High School continued to put up big numbers on offense in its 40-30 win against Hinds Agricultural High School Friday night.

The Green Wave put up 434 yards on offense — 350 through the air — and head coach Ron Rushing said it never surprises him to see his offense produce that much.

“There will come some times where we really struggle, and we expect that, but we feel like we have a great scheme (on offense),” Rushing said. “It all fits together. Sometimes teams will do something different at the start of the game, and it takes a while to adjust, but the big thing is our kids believe in the system, and we feel like we can score against anyone.”

Cathedral (3-1, 1-1) enters Week 5 looking to build momentum off of a good start to the season, and Rushing said last week’s win bodes well for his team down the road.

“I’m really proud of the way we played against a good Hinds team,” Rushing said. “They’re very athletic and are as good as anyone in the district.”

Up next is Mississippi High School Activities Association Division 4-1A opponent Resurrection Catholic School (2-2, 0-2) of Pascagoula, which the Green Wave will take on Friday.

“They’ve been a young team the last couple of years, but those kids are all sophomores and juniors this year,” Rushing said. “They’re a veteran team and are a lot better than they have been in the past.”

The Eagles will look to run a Wing T offense, and Rushing said his defense would have to key in on quarterback Larry Sisson in order to limit Resurrection’s attack.

“He throws really well, and they’ll spread it out and mostly run play-action passes,” Rushing said. “I think controlling Sisson is key. We have to keep him in the pocket.”

In two weeks, the Green Wave will return home to host defending state champion Stringer High School for homecoming. But Rushing said his team isn’t worried about Stringer for the time being.

“We’re 100 percent focused on Resurrection right now,” Rushing said. “If we don’t win this game, it really puts us behind the 8-ball. All season, we’re going to have to take it one week at a time.”

Kickoff is at 7 p.m. Friday. The game will be played at St. Patrick Catholic School in Biloxi.
