VIDALIA — Services for Melton “M.R.” Martin, 68, of Ferriday, who died Monday, Dec. 17, 2007, at Promise Hospital Ferriday, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Vidalia First Assembly of God with the Rev. Albert Fraley officiating.

Burial will follow at Central Cemetery, in Wisner, La., under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home in Ferriday.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Martin was born Oct. 24, 1939, in Ft. Necessity, La., the son of William Clifford Martin and Juanita Burroughs Martin. Mr. Martin was employed as an insurance salesman and he was a member of Vidalia First Assembly of God.

He was preceded in death by his father; and sister, Leta Martin.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Martin of Ferriday; his mother; daughter, Joy Book and husband, Randy, both of Wisner, La.; sons, Donnie Martin and Edward Martin, both of Ferriday; sisters, Barbara Saxton and husband, Buddy, both of Hendersonville, Tenn. and Faye Terrell and husband, J.T., both of Lake Providence, La.; granddaughters, Brandy Harvey, Lacey Martin, Sierra Martin and Shelby Martin; grandsons, Daniel Book, Davis Book and wife, Kelly, William Casey Martin, and Donnie Martin Jr.; great-grandchildren, Haiden and Greyson Harvey, Charlotte Book and William Christopher Martin.

Pallbearers will be Sonny Tarver, Wayne Tarver, Junior Tarver, Daniel “Coot” Swilley, Pete Swilley and James Smith.

Honorary pallbearers will be Huel Sandiage, Ray Fields, and grandsons, Daniel, David, Casey and Jay R.
