PRENTISS — Taylor Perkins pitched a no-hitter and hit a three-run home run in the top of the second inning to lead the Adams County Christian School Lady Rebels hammered the Prentiss Christian School Lady Saints 15-0 in three innings Tuesday afternoon in an MAIS District 5-AA game.

Perkins went all three innings, struck out one and walked none. Even though ACCS committed two errors, Prentiss Christian was not able to take advantage of either of them.

“She did a good job. She’s locating the ball extremely well,” Lady Rebels head coach Forrest Foster said. “She’s got a lot of confidence right now. She’s shown a lot of leadership the last couple of nights.”

Foster said that everyone on the team has stepped up after what he felt like was a lackadaisical performance at last Saturday’s Co-Lin Tournament. And that included a hard-fought 1-0 loss to Class AA No. 1 Silliman Institute less than 24 hours earlier.

The Lady Rebels did not let that tough defeat let them down. They came right out of the gate and scored five runs in the top of the first inning. In that frame, Anna McDaniel had an RBI triple and Ashleigh Williams had a two-run double.

Perkins’ big home run highlighted a four-run top of the second that gave them a 9-0 advantage. ACCS put the mercy rule in effect by scoring six runs in the top of the third inning, which was aided by a Jordan Petty 2-run double.

Perkins ended up going 2-for-2 and Petty was 2-for-3.

“They did a good job. We knew we would face a pitcher that throws the same way that we throw,” Foster said. “We know what to expect when we step up in the batter’s box. We hit it crisp against Silliman (Monday) night and we hit it crisp tonight.”

ACCS (11-11, 5-1) moved into first place in District 5-AA with the win as it has the tiebreaker advantage over Central Hinds Academy.

“Right now I have a five-run advantage on Central Hinds with two games to go,” Foster said. “It’s going to come down to the wire. We still have Amite School Center and Brookhaven Academy. They still have ASC and Brookhaven Academy.”

ACCS will host its own tournament on Saturday. The Lady Rebels take on Centreville Academy at 8 a.m.; Central Private School at 10:30 a.m.; Silliman at 1 p.m.; and Central Hinds at 6:40 p.m.

West Lincoln 4, Franklin County 0

MEADVILLE — Heather Moak pitched a complete-game shutout and Brianna Fauver went 3-for-3 as the West Lincoln Lady Bears defeated the Franklin County Lady Bulldogs Tuesday night.

Moak scattered eight hits, walked none and struck out one over seven innings. Moak outdueled Franklin County’s Shelly Case, who gave up four runs, all earned, on eight hits with two walks and no strikeouts.

“It came down to a game of errors,” Lady Bulldogs head coach Dana Smith said. “We matched them hit for hit and we made some great defensive plays. But in the end, errors are what beat us.”

The defense behind Moak was stellar as West Lincoln committed just one error. Franklin County, on the other hand, committed five errors.

The Lady Bears scored one run in the top of the first and second innings to grab an early 2-0 lead. Case held them scoreless until they plated one run in the top of the fifth. They scored their final run in the top of the seventh.

Layton Seals had the only extra-base hit of the game with a double and she went 2-for-4 for West Lincoln. Franklin County was led by Hayle McKinney and Jamecia Starks, who both went 3-for-3.

“West Lincoln has a good team. They’ve got four seniors and three juniors,” Smith said. “We’re on the right track heading into district play. I’m pleased with their progress.”

Franklin County (3-10) begins MHSAA Division 7-3A play next Tuesday at 6 p.m. at home against Hazlehurst.
