ST. JOSEPH, La. — Bailey Keyes pitched a complete-game shutout and held Trinity Episcopal to just three hits as the Tensas Academy Lady Chiefs defeated the Lady Saints 4-0 Tuesday afternoon in an MAIS District 7-A game.

The first four and a half innings was a pitcher’s duel between Keyes and Trinity Episcopal’s Kailey Hutchins. Neither team was able to put any runs on the board until the bottom of the fifth inning.

That’s when the Lady Chiefs took advantage of an inconsistent Hutchins. After she walked a pair of batters, a double by Hali Matthews sparked a three-run rally that gave them the lead for good. That would be more than enough run support for Keyes.

Keyes ended up striking out four batters, walked only two batters, and helped her cause by going 2-for-3 at the plate.

Tensas Academy scored its final run of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning. Hali Matthews ended up going 2-for-4, as did Lauren Matthews.

Tail Beard was one of the few bright spots for the Lady Saints in the game as she had a double. The other was that they committed just one error.

Hutchins allowed four runs, all earned, on six hits with six strikeouts. However, it was the free passes that Doughty said was the difference in the outcome.

Trinity Episcopal (8-9, 3-2) has a home game at 6 p.m. today against first-place Franklin Academy in another key district game.

Franklin County 10, McComb 2

MEADVILLE — Shelly Case pitched seven strong innings and Macy Brabham couldn’t be stopped at the plate as the Franklin County Lady Bulldogs defeated the McComb Lady Tigers Tuesday night.

Case allowed two runs, none earned, on four hits and three walks and she struck out four batters. She also helped her cause by going 2-for-3 at the plate.

It was a team win, and a much-needed one, for Franklin County. In addition to Case’s performance on the mound, the Lady Bulldogs had 12 hits and committed just two errors.

The Lady Bulldogs struck first with one run in the bottom of the first inning and then put the game away with six runs in the bottom of the third inning. They would add another three runs in the bottom of the fourth before the Lady Tigers scored their only two runs of the game in the top of the fifth.

Franklin County (3-8) next play at 6 p.m. Thursday at Brookhaven.

Centreville-Central Private game postponed

BAKER, La. — The MAIS District 6-AA game between the Centreville Academy Lady Tigers and the Central Private School Lady Rebels was postponed because of to inclement weather.

The score was tied at 1-1 with Centreville at bat with two outs in the top of the second inning. Lady Tigers head coach Mark Mann said he should hear something today from Lady Rebels head coach Shell Cothell as to when the game will resume.
